Have BiH Politicians achieved the Convergence of Positions?

International and United States (U.S.) officials spoke with actors of political processes from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), but also with each other. It is certain that there is an abyss in front of us, but no one knows how deep it is, as academician Esad Durakovic said. The blockade of institutions continues, the idea of the sovereignty of Republika Srpska (RS) is getting louder. There is still time for more decisive action: “Sanctions, to Dodik, but that is not enough – but to Vucic as well. Vucic is behind the destructive policy, attack on the constitutional order of the country. On the other hand, behind Covic’s policy, which is also negative for BiH, is HDZ, the political leadership in Croatia. If the international community would put the appropriate pressure, let’s say with a monetary fund or money, under the condition that they leave BiH alone, Dodik and Covic would float through the water within a few days.”

“I do not believe that it is a coincidence that a few days ago Milorad Dodik ended up in Zagreb with Zoran Milanovic, and Dragan Covic with Aleksandar Vucic at the same time. This points to the danger that this action and ambitions from the first half of the 1990s, which were in the minds of other people, will be revived, ” claims academician Slavo Kukic.

While neighbors are increasingly showing pretensions towards BiH, academician Kukic thinks that it is time to move from talks to action: ”It is certain that the European Union (EU) and the U.S., as well as the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, will have to stop Milorad Dodik. Otherwise, if they do not do it urgently, it will give him the green light to go a step further and, in addition to the Agency for Medicines, he can apply the same logic to the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH), the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA), and many other things. “

Academician Durakovic believes that we have a state of the coldwar in BiH: “War goals from 1992 have not been achieved.”

The situation is not good – during talks, few are truly ready for compromise.

“It would not suit them because in that situation they would find themselves under attack by the institutions, given that most of them are involved in corrupt practices and it is difficult to expect such people to work on changes to the Election Law, but also some other issues relevant to this system. In my opinion, it is unusual that the representatives of the U.S. and the EU are talking to the members of political parties instead of the talks on the Election Law returned to the institutions, that is, to the Parliamentary Assembly (PA), ” warned political scientist Darko Kuzmanovic.

So far, international actors have not adequately responded to the situation for which, except for BiH politicians, they are those who are responsible. Time is running out. The deadline for amendments to the Election Law is six months before the election. It’s all up to us again. That is why it is certain that the talks could last. It is too early to predict whether they will be in vain.
