drinking-waterConsidering the urgent need for clean drinking water, Austria from today will start to provide support to B&H with a specialized unit for support in cases of disasters of the Austrian Armed Forces, which consists of 75 soldiers, announced the Austrian Embassy in B&H.

Experts of the Austrian Armed Forces will use a special device for providing drinking water. This device daily produces about 240.000 liters of drinking water, which can supply about 50.000 people daily and will ensure the transport to the affected areas.

Members of the unit are specialists for water analysis, decontamination and disinfection of wells and water tanks. This will further be able to support the activities of preventing and combating the threat of epidemics.

This unit complements teams of firefighters and the Red Cross which are already in the country and helicopter action within EUFOR ALTHEA.

The Austrian Federal Government on 20 May of this year approved one million euros for B&H and Serbia from funds for disasters abroad. Austrian Radio and Television (ORF) together with partners provides help in 11 actions “Neighbors in Need”, under the motto “Floods in SEE”.
