Edward FergusonEdward Ferguson, the British Ambassador to BiH, addressed the members of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC BiH) on the first day of the session of the HJPC BiH.

“I’m here today to explain how the United Kingdom supports judicial institutions at the state level in many fields. We are hoping that our support will help to respond to real and legitimate concerns of citizens when it comes to the judicial system in BiH. Besides cooperation with High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and its Secretariat, we are also closely cooperating with the Prosecution, as well as the Constitutional Court and the Court of BiH. We are hoping to further deepen this partnership, in order to help in developing a judicial system in which citizens can trust and this country can be proud.”

The rule of law is a foundation of a stable and prosperous country.

“This is a key part of the process of the accession to EU and the condition for the closure of the OHR. We are doing everything possible in order to strengthen the quality, efficiency, independence and responsibility of the judicial sector. However, the change must come from within. The HJPC can lead the reform process and be a true example of the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. I encouraged the Council to do that,” said the Ambassador Ferguson.

President Tegeltija thanked for the strong support of the United Kingdom to the HJPC BiH and the judiciary of BiH, noting that the United Kingdom is continuously showing to be a friend of BiH, not only in words but through the realization of numerous projects on the improvement of the judiciary.
