A ceremony on the occasion of the completion of works on the reconstruction of the building was held in the Home for children without parental care “Bjelave” in Sarajevo. Within the energy efficiency project, a thermal insulation façade was set on the building, gutters were replaced, and works on thermal insulation of roof were done. Condensing gas boilers and pumps that are reducing the electricity consumption were installed as well.

The project “Green Economic Development” was funded by the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Canton Sarajevo, the Government of Sweden, the UNDP and the Fund for Environmental Protection of the FBiH with funds in the amount of 379,796 BAM.

Director Saudin Djurdjevic noted that this represents the largest investment in the infrastructure of this building since its very construction, and that this project solved the long-standing problem of efficient heating of this institution.

“Living conditions for our children will be significantly improved, the energy consumption will be reduced, and other costs will be rationalized,” stated director Djurdjevic. He also thanked the participants of the project for recognizing the needs of this institution and for including their building in the project of energy rehabilitation with several other public institutions in the CS.

“This project will bring numerous benefits. The improvement of living conditions is on the first place, but there are also energy saving and reducing heating costs.  Thus, all saved funds can be directed to some other priorities of this institution and the needs of our children,” stated Minister Lukac.

This is just part of a large, 5 million EUR worth, project that Sweden is implementing on a total of 100 public buildings in BiH.
