A large number of mortal remains are still in ossuaries all over the countries of the former Yugoslavia, and they are still waiting for identification and eternal peace. We are still searching for 14,000 missing persons, mostly in BiH.

Yesterday, a regional conference on solving the issue of missing persons from the former Yugoslavia from the period 1991-1999 took place in Sarajevo and it was entitled “Where is”. This conference gathered families, representatives of government institutions, government commission for the search for missing persons, the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, representatives of prosecutors’ offices and international organizations.

“There are still about 12,000 missing persons in the entire region, of which between 7,000 and 8,000 from the territory of BiH. Families are still submitting requests for the search for missing persons years after the war, because the criteria were limiting before, and many of them were displaced and outside of their countries so they could not do it before, ” said the President of Regional coordination of association of families of missing persons from Former Yugoslavia, Semina Alekic.

“We asked for a regional list of missing persons in order to prevent manipulations and in order for our family members not to be just figures. The regional list is not done yet,” she added.

They appealed to all those who have any information of the potential locations of individual or mass graves to give those information to institutions that are dealing with missing persons in order for their identity to be protected.
