HR Schmidt confirmed Germany will send its Armed Forces to BiH

Germany will soon send members of its armed forces to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the High Representative in our country Christian Schmidt confirmed yesterday.

He said this at yesterday’s press conference, after the session of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), answering a journalist’s question.

”A request will be submitted to the Bundestag next week, which will enable the German flag to be raised in Butmir,” Schmidt said.

Namely, Germany has not participated in the EUFOR mission since 2012, but it was recently announced that the country wants to deploy an army to support the stability of BiH.

It should be noted that EUFOR has already strengthened the contingent in BiH with an additional 500 soldiers within its competencies, and its forces currently number a total of 1.100 soldiers. The latest reinforcement consists of soldiers from Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovakia.

The increase in engagement came after the Russian invasion of Ukraine when there were fears that Moscow might try to provoke incidents in other countries as well, Klix.ba writes.
