HR Schmidt gives the Ministry of Finance a Deadline for the Payment of Funds to the CEC for Election Technologies

The agenda of today’s session of the BiH Council of Ministers is extensive. The proposal for a decision on the introduction of temporary and protective measures for the import of steel, proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, should be considered, and the allowance for salaries of employees in prisons will be considered…

Let us remind you that the High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, issued an authentic interpretation of the decision from July last year, which refers to changes to the Law on the Financing of BiH Institutions. The interpretation clearly emphasizes that this decision remains binding and that all its provisions must be fully implemented, which puts additional pressure on the competent institutions in the country.

It is evident from the document that the Ministry of Finance and Treasury of BiH significantly delayed the payment of funds, especially to the Central Election Commission of BiH, to which Schmidt had previously provided 112.5 million BAM for the procurement of new election technologies. According to sources from diplomatic circles, the high representative gave clear instructions and a deadline of 24 hours to the Minister of Finance Vjekoslav Amidžić to pay the funds to the CEC, after which the powers pass to another responsible person if the obligations are not fulfilled.

This decision comes at a time when the public is increasingly highlighting the problem of delays in the implementation of laws and the provision of key funds for the work of state institutions. The issue of efficient financing is particularly critical for the Central Election Commission, given the planned modernization and introduction of new technologies that should ensure the transparency and security of the election process.

Now it is the Ministry of Finance’s turn, whose further action according to the High Representative’s instructions may have a direct impact on the stability and integrity of the electoral processes in BiH.
