HR Schmidt: We see Kosovo and that is why BiH must start Negotiations with the EU

High Representative Christian Schmidt, after the conference held in Zagreb two days ago “on the European path and perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)”, said that the integration of BiH into the European Union (EU) must be accelerated due to the current momentum.

Schmidt emphasized the importance of speeding up the integration of BiH into the EU and added that it is necessary to start accession negotiations.

I see the political necessity to speed up the integration of BiH into the EU and the momentum must not be lost. We are talking about a time when we do not know whether there will be a political effect of the war in Ukraine and Russian aggression on the Western Balkans. We see Kosovo and that’s why we have to be decisive and start negotiations with BiH,” said Schmidt.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Croatia Gordan Grlic Radman, who also participated in the conference, said that Croatia strongly supports BiH’s entry into the EU after it received candidate status in December, and that the goal is to open accession negotiations by the end of the year.

“I think that BiH, with this new Council of Ministers, which was formed last year, has proven to be very active. They are very engaged in fulfilling those conditions, meaning criteria, which are a prerequisite for opening accession negotiations,” Grlic Radman stated, Klix.ba reports.
