Football representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina and striker of Turkish Fenerbahce Edin Dzeko commented on the “clash” with Mauro Icardi during the Truske Super League derby against Galatasaray last weekend. Dzeko said that Icardi is his friend, and that someone is trying to show that there is a problem between them.
Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will face off in the Turkish Super Cup tonight, and the match will be played at 8:45 p.m. local time at the Al-Awwal Park stadium in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Dzeko answered the journalists’ questions, and first he expressed his expectations for tonight’s game.
“I feel good to be here. I think as a team we are ready for the Super Cup match. I came here with Inter last year and lifted the trophy against Milan. I hope to lift another trophy tomorrow. It will be a battle between two good and strong team. I hope that tomorrow we will show a better game than it was at Kadikoy (derby against Galatasaray),” Dzeko said.
He added that he hopes to win his first trophy with Fenerbahce tonight.
“That would be a great feeling for me. In my opinion, we have been working well for six months. I hope that we will crown the Super Cup in 2023. We are ready as a team and we know what awaits us and what we need to do on the field. We respect Galatasaray, but we have prepared for the game. We will do our best and hope to bring the cup to our fans,” Dzeko added.
Journalists were interested in the “clash” with Icardi in the derby against Galatasaray, which was widely reported in the media. Although it was suggested to the translator at the press conference that Džeko should not translate that part of the question, BH representative understood what it was about, and insisted that it be translated for him, saying that he was open to all questions.
Dzeko underlined that Icardi is his friend, and that he knows him from the time he played in Italy.
“In my opinion, what happens on the field should stay on the field. I know Mauro from Italy. Unfortunately, people try to portray us as if there is a problem between us, but that’s not the case. There are a lot of emotions in the game. We deal with those emotions.
“All these things are an integral part of football, because every footballer wants to win. What happens on the field stays on the field and our friendship continues,” concluded Dzeko, AA writes.
