Igman Konjic Company – Target of Sophisticated Internet Scam

The company “Igman” from Konjic was the target of a sophisticated internet fraud related to electronic business communication, due to which almost 780,000 euros disappeared from the account of this weapon industry producer.

The company confirmed that it was a cyber incident, but stated that thanks to the quick reaction, most of the funds were blocked and they expect their return.

“Thanks to the quick reaction of all involved, most of the funds in question have been blocked and their return is expected,” announced Igman Konjic.

As they stated, immediately after learning about the possible incident, all available protection mechanisms were activated.

“Immediately upon learning about the possible incident, the company activated all available protection mechanisms, informed the competent police authorities and the business bank about the event, and initiated urgent activities with the aim of stopping the disputed transactions and protecting its assets,” the company’s press release states.

An investigation is underway, and Igman emphasizes that they are fully cooperating with police authorities, banks and other competent institutions. In parallel, an audit of the information security system is being conducted.

Experts warn that protecting information systems is one of the biggest challenges for companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They state that many companies continue to invest insufficiently in security systems, which makes them easy targets for various forms of cybercrime.

Cybercrime expert Saša Petrović from the Federal Police Administration emphasized that in such cases, speed of reaction is crucial.

“The quick reaction of the prosecution, the victim towards the police and the Ministry of Justice is important. The reason why something like this happens is the lack of investment in the security of information systems,” said Petrović.

According to him, such frauds often do not require particularly complex methods, but rather exploit gaps in business communication and insufficient system protection.

The Igman Konjic case has reopened the issue of the level of cybersecurity in domestic companies, especially those that conduct large financial transactions and do business with international partners on a daily basis.
