The rulebook on the application of the VAT Law has been amended, which begins the implementation of the adopted law exempting food donations from VAT.
Implementation of this law will ensure that food reaches those who need it most.
Saša Magazinović, a representative in the House of Representatives of the PSBiH and one of the proponents of this law, said that after the unanimous adoption of the law, the Rulebook specifying the application of the law was also adopted today.
“Thus, when it comes to passing laws, we end this successful story which, apart from its positive effects, will remain as a testimony that a lot of good can still be done in our country. With persistence and an appropriate approach. This story ends today, and a new one begins. The implementation is starting that will make life easier for people in need. We will follow and with thanks support those who donate and those who help people on the ground,” said Magazinović.
The draft Rulebook, together with all other supporting documentation, was submitted to the ITA Management Board on August 21, 2023.
The draft was on the agenda of today’s session of the Administrative Board of the ITA and it was adopted.
The problem of hunger in Bosnia and Herzegovina is increasing, and according to UN data, more than 400,000 tons of food are destroyed annually in our country, while at the same time every fifth person has nothing to eat every day.
About 18,000 people are fed in public kitchens every day, and a large number of people also receive daily meals or monthly food assistance packages in order to survive.
The proposal for the amendment to the VAT Law originated from the initiative “No one is hungry. No one is alone”, which was carried out by the Mozaik Foundation with the Hastor Foundation, the Pomozi.ba Association, the Peace Building Network, and the Trag and Catalyst Balkans foundations, with financial support USAID, Klix.ba reports.
