The play “U Zvorniku ja sam ostavio svoje srce” (In Zvornik I left my heart), text by Abdulah Sidran and directed by Sulejman Kupusović, won five capital awards at the 32nd theatre games in Jajce.
The jury, made up of Josip Pejaković, Almir Bašović and Radmila Smiljanić, decided that the true artistic achievement prizes for best director, lyrics and best male roles, won by Dragan Jovičić and Emir Hadžihafizbegović and for the best performance overall.
Director Kupusović pointed out that the handful of awards that “Zvornik” deservedly own is an indicator that this text was in the past viciously punished.
“Regardless of all the possible attempts to assault the text of Abdulah Sidran, who speaks in an honest, humanistic and artistic way about the beginning of the war and aggression on BiH, and the attempts to devalue it, is belittling and shows the text as anti-Serbian and ideological, just shows that everything comes out on its own in the end’’, said the BiH Director.
Kupusović said that attempts to challenge Sidran’s text were disgraceful, but still thinks it a huge success that the public recognized a great show.
“These awards act as a kind of small satisfaction. But, I am sure that before our show there are many more challenges. We await the International Festival in Brčko, where there will be plays from all over the former Yugoslavia, as well as performances abroad. Finally true value, which was recognized by an expert jury, could reach their full significance and meet with the public’’, said Kupusović.
Actor Dragan Jovičić, who, together with Emir Hadžihafizbegović won the award for best male role, shares the opinion of Director Kupusović.
“I am glad that quality is recognized, unlike some other festivals of which I do not wish to comment. It is important to recognize true values, which are always on the side of goodness’’, said Jovičić.
