Increase in Cigarette and Tobacco Prices from January 1?

Law on Use of Tobacco Draft oslobodjenje.baThe Governing Board of Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA GB) of BiH adopted the decision on establishing the specific and the minimum excise duty on cigarettes and smoking tobacco for 2017.

Members of the ITA Governing Board, at its meeting held in Mostar, established that new minimum and specific excise duty on cigarettes and tobacco will be applied from the 1st of January 2017.

According to the adopted decision, which is based on the Law on Excise Duties in BiH, from the 1st of January 2017, the minimum excise tax will amount to 2.42 BAM, and the specific excise duty will be 1.35 BAM for packages of 20 cigarettes.

The excise tax on smoking tobacco shall be determined in the amount of 80% of the minimum excise tax, and it will amount to 96.80 BAM per kilogram.

Taxpayers and other persons engaged in trade of cigarettes are obliged to list the inventories of cigarettes on the 1st of January and deliver inventory lists to the competent regional center of ITA by the 7th of January 2017, while the calculation of excise duty must be submitted by the 17th of January this year in order to calculate the difference.

Calculation of the retail price, in accordance with this decision, taxpayers are required to submit to the competent regional center of ITA by the 30th of November 2016.

The Governing Board of ITA adopted the decision on the determined amount of diesel fuel used for the purposes of mines, power plants and railways that are not for toll paying for 2017.

The provisions of this decision apply to diesel used by mines and thermal power plants in the production process and railways for operation of rail vehicles and to a certain amount approved by the Governing Board of ITA on the proposal of entities governments and Brcko District.
