Member of the Permanent Delegation of the BiH Parliament of the Council of Europe Senad Šepić participated in the mission of observing presidential elections that were held on 18 February in Armenia.

“Yesterday elections were held where 7 candidates participated. The current president Serzh Sargsyan was elected again, who won 58 percent of the votes”, said Šepić today for FENA.

He said that the elections, according to the opinions of international observers conducted in the main office, with recommendations for improvement of the entire electoral process that would as a final report of the mission of the Council of Europe and the OSCE be delivered in this country, because it still suffers from widespread public mistrust in the electoral process and is one of the biggest obstacles to the consolidation of democracy in this country.

Šepić said that these elections were a very important indicator of democratic changes after the 2008 elections, when massive protests ended with confrontation with the police and opposition supporters that left 10 people dead.

According to him, political relations between BiH and Armenia are good, but not developed enough. Given that all elements exist for successful development and economic relations exist, it is necessary to intensify activities for the signing of the agreement from these areas, from which some are in the process of agreements for 10 years already.

‘’I spoke with government officials and the cabinet of the Presidency that agreements in the field of economy, investments, and cultural and educational relations end as soon as possible, and I particularly stress the importance of the agreement on trade-economic relations and protection of investments, and I hope that this activities will finally finish”, said Šepić.
