Iran has warned of “Israeli war expansion” in the region if the Israeli army continues to commit war crimes against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian spoke by phone with the European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell about the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced.
“If the war crimes committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza and the West Bank are not stopped, the scope of the war in the region is likely to deepen and expand,” Abdollahian warned.
He emphasized the need to “stop as soon as possible the attacks launched by the Zionist regime against the residents of Gaza.”
He added that Iran rejects “Israel’s plans to forcefully remove Palestinians from their territory.”
Borrell also stressed the importance of reducing tensions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as soon as possible.
He said that the European Union is making efforts to make Israel respect the international law of war.
“We believe that the solution to the Palestinian issue lies in focusing on diplomacy,” Borrell said, AA reports.
