Iran has announced that the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in the capital Tehran was carried out with a short-range rocket with a seven-kilogram warhead.
The announcement of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the results of the investigation into the murder of Haniyeh at the residence in Iran where he was staying as an official guest.
It is said that the assassination was planned and carried out by Israel with the support of the United States of America (USA).
“According to investigations, this terrorist attack occurred when a short-range rocket with a warhead of approximately seven kilograms was fired outside the area where the guests were accommodated,” the statement added.
It was also pointed out that because of the murder of Haniyeh, “revenge will certainly be carried out at the right time and in the right place”.
Tensions in the region further escalated after Hamas political chief Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on Wednesday. While Hamas and Iran have blamed Israel for the killing, Tel Aviv has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
The assassination came a day after Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Fears of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah have increased after the two sides exchanged cross-border attacks.
The escalation comes against the backdrop of deadly Israeli attacks on Gaza that have killed more than 39,500 people since October last year.
