The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), following a proposal from the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, has adopted a decision to award the State Award for Sports of BiH for 2024. This prestigious award has been granted to Ismail Barlov, a young para swimmer from Sarajevo.
In addition to the recognition, he was awarded a monetary prize of 10.000 BAM for his contribution to the development of sports and the promotion of BiH.
Among his numerous athletic achievements is a silver medal at this year’s Paralympic Games in Paris in the 50-meter breaststroke event, with a time of 1:02.74.
At just 13 years old, Ismail achieved the “A” standard for the Paralympic Games and the World Senior Championship, making him the youngest athlete from BiH to accomplish this feat. His results contribute to the promotion of para swimming and inspire future generations to follow his example.
The Council of Ministers of BiH also adopted a decision on the one-time monetary award amounts for distinguished athletes and top international-level athletes in BiH for 2024, as proposed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH.
The one-time monetary award for deserving athletes in BiH this year was set at an amount ranging from 1.800 to 3.000 BAM for 12 athletes who met the retirement conditions.
For 36 top athletes in BiH, the one-time monetary award was set at amounts ranging from 1.600 to 2.300 BAM. These awards recognize achievements such as meeting the “A” standard or securing qualification for participation in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Special Olympics, or World Championships.
The Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, Dubravka Bosnjak, extended heartfelt congratulations to Ismail Barlov for receiving the State Award for Sports of BiH for 2024, as well as to the categorized athletes for 2024, according to a statement from the ministry.
