Israel arrests 40 more Palestinians in West Bank raids

At least 40 Palestinians have been detained in new Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank, prisoner rights groups said.

“Among the detainees are four women, including a journalist,” said a joint statement by the Commission on Detainees and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Association.

Most of the arrests took place in the cities of Ramallah, Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin and Qalqilya.

Along with new arrests, according to Palestinian data, Israeli forces have arrested 7,490 Palestinians in the occupied territory since October 7, 2023.

Tensions have risen across the West Bank since Israel launched a deadly military offensive into the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7.

At least 420 Palestinians have since been killed and more than 4,600 injured by Israeli fire, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

On January 26, following a genocide lawsuit filed by the Republic of South Africa, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must refrain from any actions related to the killing, attacks and destruction of the residents of the Gaza Strip and take all measures to prevent genocide.

However, Israeli forces continue to attack the Gaza Strip in which 30,800 Palestinians have been killed since October 7.
