The Jewish Community of BiH hosted a reception on the occasion of the largest Jewish holiday of Passover in Sarajevo for numerous invitees from religious, political, cultural and public life of BiH.
Representatives of all religions in BiH, state institutions, city and municipal structures, as well as the international community and diplomatic corps attended this event.
The President of the Jewish Community in BiH, Jakob Finci, reminded in his introductory speech that this holiday, which is celebrated for the longest period of time in continuity in the world, celebrates freedom and it has the symbolism of the process of constant self-liberation. This holiday is marked in the memory of liberation of the Jewish people from slavery, and the return of the Jewish people to faith in one God.
“Freedom, together with peace, is the greatest sanctity in BiH, and not just for Jewish people but for all of its citizens,” stated Finci.
Passover is one of three pilgrim holidays when all the Jewish people, who are able to do it, visit Jerusalem. Every adult man was obliged to come to the holy city before, during the time of the Temple.
Passover is holiday celebrated within the family. During the seder dinner, all family members gather around the dining table that contains dishes that symbolically resemble to the slavery of the Jewish people in Egypt and their liberation.
