The European Union (EU) is seeking a role in the transitional authority of the United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump, for the Gaza Strip, said the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, to reporters on Monday.
“Yes, we believe that Europe has an important role, and we should also be involved in that,” said Kallas, responding to a question on whether the EU wants to participate in Trump’s “Peace Committee.”
“We support continued efforts to achieve a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a political horizon for peace. The EU is ready to contribute to this plan with all the tools at our disposal. We are the largest humanitarian donor to Gaza, we have established a new Palestinian donor group, and we remain the largest financial supporter of the Palestinian Authority – with 1.6 billion euros allocated for the period 2025–2027,” said Kallas.
