Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić is in Washington, where she is participating in the 10th Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Program Summit.

She believes that this is another great opportunity to present our Sarajevo at an event attended by mayors from all over the world.

“Through the diplomacy of cities, we strengthen Sarajevo’s international position and cooperation with major and large European and world centers,” said the mayor.

On this occasion, Karić met again with the mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser.

“I presented this great woman, leader and true friend with a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Sarajevo. Mayor Bowser declared March 1, the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Day of Bosnian-American Friendship. We are also grateful for the proclamation marking July 11 as the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica,” Karić pointed out.

“Sarajevo and Washington are thus forever connected, just as Mrs. Bowser and I are connected by a degree in history and the fact that we are the second women in the position of mayor in the history of our cities,” said Benjamina Karić, Fena reports.
