Do you know how many Bosnians and Herzegovinians live in Vienna?

bec_panorama_epaThe City of Vienna published its statistics book for 2016 “Vienna in numbers”. On 24 pages and in eight chapters, this book brings the most important information about the capital of Austria.

Vienna is home to 1.8 million people and women make up 51.5 percent of its total population. Holders of 181 citizenships live in Vienna. After Austrian (72.6 percent), the most residents have the citizenship of Serbia (4.1 percent), Turkey, Germany, Poland and Romania. Following are citizens of BiH (1.2 percent) and Croatia (1.1 percent).

Average age of women who give birth to their first child is 29.5 years and most popular names for boys and girls are David and Anna.

According to Big Mac Index, one must work 12 minutes in Vienna to earn enough money to buy this McDonalds product. For comparison, in Vienna the average is 13 minutes, in Brussels 16, in Rome 18 and in Madrid 19 minutes.

Gross domestic product of Vienna amounts to 84.2 billion EUR, or 47.300 EUR per capita. Last year 175 international companies settled in Vienna, majority of which are from Germany, Hungary and Italy. Direct foreign investments amounted to 93 billion BAM – 42.3 percent coming from the EU, 21.1 percent from Russia and 11.1 percent from the USA.

Four most frequently visited landmarks in the city are the Schönbrunn castle, Schönbrunn zoo, Austrian Belvedere Gallery and the Natural History Museum.

When it comes to education, with 195.337 students Vienna is currently the greatest university city in German-speaking area. Another great statistic for Vienna is that 97.3 of all children under six years of age are attending one of the educational-upbringing institutions.
