A missile attack was carried out on the Ayn al-Assad military base in the Iraqi province of Anbar, where United States (U.S.)soldiers are stationed, reports Anadolu.

A large number of missiles attacked the Ayn al-Assad base in western Iraq, where U.S. soldiers are stationed, local media reported citing security sources.

A group called the Islamic Resistance of Iraq, which includes pro-Iranian Shiite militias in Iraq, said it frequently attacks bases housing U.S. and coalition forces, “in response to attacks in Gaza.”

Ayn al-Asad military base in Anbar, Harir Airbase in Erbil, Victory military base in Baghdad and a U.S. base near Erbil International Airport were targeted by drones armed with bombs.

The Reuters news agency specified that American personnel suffered minor injuries, and that a member of the Iraqi security forces was seriously wounded after the attack.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a U.S. official said that initial reports from the field indicate that the base was hit by ballistic missiles, but leaves open the possibility that it may have been hit by rockets, N1 writes.
