Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that Serbia should propose a special agreement that would allow Kosovo Serbs to participate in the December 17th elections in Serbia, outside the Liaison Office in Pristina. In a letter addressed to the head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Michael Davenport, Kurti said that the agreement should come as a proposal from Serbia as an interested party “with respect for the sovereignty and independence of Kosovo”.
“And any such request must be based on the sovereignty and independence of Kosovo, as an equal state, in accordance with Article 2 of the Basic Agreement reached this year between Kosovo and Serbia,” stated Kurti’s letter to the head of the OSCE mission in Kosovo.
According to him, in addition to these conditions, Serbia must negotiate an agreement with Kosovo, in which, as he said, the obligation from the Basic Agreement (on the path to normalization of relations) “to contribute to good neighborly relations, based on equal rights and mutual respect for the rights of voters abroad” would be implemented.
Local and parliamentary elections in Serbia will be held on December 17th this year, and the Government of Kosovo did not allow voting in Kosovo for the elections held in Serbia in April 2022.
