Lejla Catic received the Order of Honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, which was presented to her by Ambassador Edward Ferguson on behalf of the British Government at a ceremony that was held in Sarajevo.

Lejla Catic won this prestigious award for her work on establishing good governance in the territory of Syria and Afghanistan.

To recall, honorary OBE is awarded to non-British citizens for their work on improvement of lives of other persons, their long-lasting volunteer work, etc.

Lejla Catic is an expert in the field of public finances and local self-government, and she worked as a counsellor and then as a program leader in several programs implemented by the UK in post-conflict countries, including Syria and Afghanistan.

“As someone who spent the last ten years of my life in post-conflict and conflicting countries in an attempt to return a sense of dignity to people, give them some control and transparency over the work of the government that represents them and build institutions that would try to understand and meet the needs of their citizens in a transparent way, this is a true recognition that my efforts paid off,” stated Lejla Catic.
