Live: “The resolution is not directed against Serbia”, Representative of Germany says

The resolution is not directed against Serbia, said the German representative at the UN The representative of Germany in the UN, Antje Leendertse, presented the text of the resolution at the beginning of the session today.

She emphasized that almost 30 years ago, more than 8,000 people were systematically executed in Srebrenica, and it all started on July 11, 1995, and lasted for several days.

“Even the fact that it was a UN protected zone did not prevent the crime. This act of genocide led to the tragic death of the victims and unprecedented suffering for the survivors,” she said.

The goal of the resolution, as she said, is to remember the victims, but also the survivors who live with scars.

“False allegations are being spread about this resolution. It is not directed against anyone. It is not even against Serbia, a valuable member of this organization. It is directed only at the perpetrators of genocide,” said the German representative at the UN.

She emphasized that Montenegro also submitted amendments to the resolution, which emphasized that responsibility is individualized and cannot be directed against any community.

“This is how we fight against misinterpretations. We need to strengthen reconciliation, both in the present and in the future,” she said, RSE writes.
