During the celebration parade in Liverpool to celebrate winning the Premier League, there was a serious incident in which a man (53) of British origin drove a car into a group of pedestrians.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a person was detained at the scene, and an investigation is underway.

The incident took place in the city center

According to initial information, the incident took place on Water Street, in the immediate vicinity of the center of Liverpool, where crowds of fans had gathered for hours to celebrate the club’s great success. Eyewitnesses claim that the car swerved sharply and hit several people, but the exact number of injuries is still unknown.

Local authorities and police have not yet released further details, nor has it been confirmed whether there are any serious injuries. Emergency services and the forensic service responded immediately to the scene.

The club’s reaction: “Our thoughts are with those affected”

Liverpool FC took to social media X to express their concern and sympathy to all those affected by the incident.

“We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident in Water Street which occurred towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this serious incident. We will continue to provide our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident,” the club said.

Fan celebration turned into shock

The parade, which should have been the highlight of the season and a moment of joy for thousands of Liverpool fans, was overshadowed by this unpleasant event. Many attendees expressed shock and concern, and social media was filled with messages of support and calls for additional security at similar gatherings.
