Local Elections in BiH 2016: 131 Mayor, 10 City Mayors and 3,136 Councilors to be elected

electionsThe citizens of BiH are today electing their representatives in local elections 2016. They will be electing 131 mayor, 10 city mayors and 3,136 councilors, 26 of them representatives of national minorities.

A total of 418 candidates will be fighting for mayor’s place, citizens will be able to choose their municipal councilors between 29,884 of them, and there are 143 candidates who are representatives of national minorities. A total of 3,263,906 voters is registered.

Voters will be electing local government, which has a significant impact on the daily lives of our citizens. Responsibilities of local governments vary depending on whether you live in the FBiH or Republika Srpska (RS), and they include developing and implementing of policies, regulations and measures that have a direct impact on the lives of citizens.

Polling places all across the country were opened at 07:00 am and will be open until 7:00 pm.

In BiH was formed a total 5,469 polling stations and 318 mobile teams. The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced that polling places will be also opened in the Embassy of BiH  in Vienna, the Honorary Consulate in Graz, Consulate General of BiH in Munich, Consulate General of BiH in Stuttgart and the Embassy of BiH  in Belgrade.

The CEC has issued instructions for voters on how to vote.
