The winner should be known on April 28.

A total of 25 applications were received for this year’s competition from all around the world. Of those 25 applications, the international jury divided the applicants in six teams which will compete in the finals of this competition. Team that Hadžiselimović is a member of is one of the six selected teams, and together with Hadžiselimović are Dr. Peter Heiligensetzer, Jytte Karstensen, Steven Kunze, Ruth Otto, Dr. Rene Dencker, Bent Matthiesen and Bent Møller.

Project that the team of Maja Hadžiselimović has been working on will be presented at one of the most prestigious fairs in the world “Industrial Technology Fair” in Hannover, which was opened yesterday by the US President Barrack Obama and the German Councilor Angela Merkel. The fair will be closed on April 29.

KUKA, one of the leading world companies in the field of robotics, is organizing this competition for the third time. The competition is aimed at presenting innovative robotic application and components related to the topic of flexible production, as well as presenting direct cooperation between a human and a robot, and finding solutions for everyday problems that users face with and new key technologies which should be developed and demonstrated.

Hadžiselimović is working for the company MRK Systeme from Augsburg for 14 months now and within that she started doing her master thesis, which is at the same time a part of the project which will be presented at the fair.

According to Hadžiselimović, the idea of organizing the “Innovation Award” competition lies in the integration of cooperation of humans and robots in industry. Title of the project she represents is RoBinCo (Robot for Bin Picking and Cooperation), where one of the primary ideas of new generation of robots was used – direct cooperation of a human and a robot.

“The idea of the project is to increase the quality of workplaces which require everyday lifting and manipulating with heavy objects, which often leads to muscular and skeletal injuries. By applying our system, robot takes over the heavier part of the task (lifting objects), while the worker manually directs the robot towards the desired position where the object is fitted,” Hadžiselimović explained.

Hadžiselimović pointed out that using these robots with IoT (Internet of Things) technology, leads to the creation of smart factories which bring better workplaces in addition to financial savings.
