Major Police Operation in Serbia: Large-Scale Arrests of Officers

Members of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, Internal Control Sector, in cooperation with the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, Niš and Jagodina, arrested several police officers on suspicion of having committed various criminal offenses.

B. T. (1985) and M. K. (1984), police officers of the Pirot Police Department, were arrested and are suspected of abusing their authority to illegally appropriate items from persons against whom measures and actions were taken in accordance with the law, as well as of having disclosed confidential information from the MUP records to unauthorized persons.

I. Ž. (1990), a member of the Jagodina Police Department, was also arrested on suspicion of having disclosed information about the police officer and the information he had entered into the official MUP records to a person from Svilajnac, Novosti.rs reports.

M. Š. was also arrested in these actions (1983), police officer of PU in Novi Sad and former police officer of this police department G. M. (1988) who are suspected of taking money in the name of accelerated procedure for issuing travel documents based on falsified documents while keeping the money for themselves.

On that occasion, natural persons D.T. (1978) and N.V. (1977) who are suspected of abuse of official position were also arrested.

Also, members of the SUK, in cooperation with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, will file criminal charges in regular proceedings against M. P. (1976), a member of the Special Police Department in Novi Sad, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of giving a false statement, as well as A. K. (1989), a police officer of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that, during 2023, he committed three criminal offenses of fraud.

It is suspected that he misled the injured parties that he would pay the agreed purchase price of the vehicle that he took over and later resold, but which he did not pay and thereby damaged them for 30,000 euros.

Arrested police officers, along with criminal charges, will be brought to the competent prosecutor’s office.
