Thanks to the young geniuses, BiH achieved extraordinary results at the 57th international mathematics Olympiad (IMO 2016).

This is the biggest and the most prestigious competition of young mathematicians in the world where every country has the right to be represented by six competitors who are selected in national competitions. As the leader of the BiH team Sead Delalić explained, every team must have two leaders, one of whom monitors the competitors and the other one participates in the selection of tasks.

BiH was represented by young mathematicians Zlatko Salko Lagumdžija, Neira Kurtović, Adisa Bolić, Tijana Babić, Emin Mrkonja, Amar Kurić, and team leaders Sead Delalić and Jelena Radović.

Delalić said that 117 countries were registered in this year’s competition and 602 best young mathematicians of the world participated.

“Competitors do six tasks during two days, three tasks per day, and each day they have 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete the tasks. Bosnia and Herzegovina has been participating in this competition since 1993 and this is the 24th participation. So far, we have won six silver medals, 33 bronze medals and 46 honorary recognitions (the fourth award presented at the competition),” Delalić said.

This year, Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved the best success according to the number of awards in the history of participating. BiH won four new bronze medals and two honorary recognitions. Honorary recognitions were won by Emin Mrkonja and Amar Kurić.
