Organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) yesterday in Zlatibor (Serbia) there was a trilateral meeting of negotiating teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia, with the final aim of harmonizing the Protocol on the Establishment of the Joint Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation, which will then be signed by the competent ministries.
The Protocol was initialed by the heads of the negotiating delegation: the BiH Ermin Pešto, for Montenegro Vukoman Žarković for Serbia Nebojša Purić.
The International Organization for Migration, Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the United Kingdom have provided funds for the establishment of the center as a part of the project entitled “Capacity building of police officers for the implementation of activities in the joint center for police cooperation,” well-established following the EU model and in accordance with EU recommendations for enhanced regional police cooperation.
The aim of establishing the Centre is a multi-national and multi-agency approach in the fight against cross-border threats and other forms of cross-border crime.
The project involves police officers from the Border Police of BiH, Montenegro and Serbia.
The project is very important for the region of the Western Balkans since it will strengthen and further develop the existing capacities of law enforcement agencies, which will continue to allow easier flow of information relevant to the security of the border.
The Joint Center for Police Cooperation, when it is operational, will allow law enforcement agencies faster data exchange which will result in taking actions that will be adequate and on time and provide an effective system for identifying and combating cross-border violations in accordance with the Schengen standards, which will create a structure that will be practical in the process of EU enlargement.
