The working group of the European and Mediterranean Organization for the Protection of Plant Health (EPPO) for phytosanitary issues will take place in Sarajevo from 17-20 June.
The European and Mediterranean Organization for the Protection of Plant Health is an intergovernmental organization responsible for international cooperation from the area of plant health protection and in accordance with Article IX FAO International Plant Protection Organization (IPPC).
EPPO is a regional organization for the protection of plant health for the European and Mediterranean region.
It was founded in 1951 and has 50 members today, covering almost all the countries in the European and Mediterranean region.
BiH became a member of EPPO in March 2008 and the contact point for the exchange of information is the BIH Board for Plant Health Protection, as an official national body for the protection of plant health in BiH (NPPO).
Two main fields of action of EPPO are: phytosanitary regulations-preventing the entry and spread of dangerous organisms (plant quarantine), funding for plant health-promoting the use of modern, safe and effective methods for the control of harmful organisms.
The body that operates within EPPO are: Council of EPPO that is made up of the Directors of NPPO, a technical body composed of a working group for phytosanitary regulations and a working group for plant protection products.
The Secretariat of EPPO proposed on 20 May 2011 that BiH-NPPO organize a workshop for phytosanitary issues.
It is expected that the meeting will enable regional experts and experts from member countries of EPPO to exchange relevant experiences and information through a discussion on current and potential issues that are based on phytosanitary issues, announced the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.
