Yesterday, for the first time in history, a Memorandum onCooperation was signed between Sarajevo and Sofia, the capitals of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Bulgaria.

This memorandum envisages a wide range of relations and interests between the cities of Sarajevo and Sofia and their citizens in the field of culture, tourism, smart city, sports, youth, and especially infrastructure and preservation of cultural and historical heritage where joint projects for mutual benefit can be realized through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance(IPA) funds.

Given the cities of Sarajevo and Sofia are members of the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities, Mayors Karic and Fandakova discussed the possibilities of networking cultural institutions, visiting artists, and exchanging cultural events, especially when it comes to international film events: Sarajevo Film Festival and Sofia Film Festival.

“By signing this document with Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, a strong foundation has been laid for the future and building quality relations between our cities,” Karic pointed out.

Bulgaria was the first to recognize the independence of BiH, in whose honor the Sarajevo City Hall was lit up a few days ago.
