UN Soldier faktor.baIn the village Jajići near Kalesija, a memorial plaque to the 21-year-old Jeffrey Broereu, a Dutch soldier who was killed by the aggressor grenade on this day in 1995 in this place, was revealed.

This young man was a member of the Dutch unit INFBAT, which was a part of UNPROFOR.

According to Fahrudin Hamzić, the president of the local community Jajići, who initiated the raising of the monument, in this settlement was an observation post of the UN during the aggression against BiH.

‘They came here in October 1993 and stayed until the end of the war. Around 15 soldiers were here, and they were taking turns. First were the Swedes, and later they were replaced by the Dutch. Jeffrey was killed two days before his birthday. The Chetniks often targeted their observation post’, said Hamzić, stating that Broere died on the way to the hospital in Tuzla.

The Dutch Embassy was positively surprised by the move of the locals in Jajići. Prior to the opening of the memorial, Dutch ambassador in our country Jurriaan Kraak met with Nedžad Džafić, mayor of Kalesija, and representatives of the local community of Jajići.

A memorial in Jajići was revealed by Džafić and Kraak, in the presence of inhabitants of Jajići. The flags of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands are now fluttering in this settlement.

A film about the stay of UN soldiers in this village was shown in Jajići.
