The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia reacted to BiH FM’s Decision

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia issued a statement regarding the decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, to expel two Serbian diplomats, evaluating the move as non-constructive and harmful to regional stability.

The Serbian ministry states that Konaković’s decision represents another step that does not contribute to good neighborly relations or the much-needed calming down of political tensions.

“It is particularly worrying that Mr. Konaković continuously seeks escalation and that he uses extremely difficult and painful topics from our common past as an instrument of daily politics and election campaigns. Such issues require responsibility and serious dialogue, not political instrumentalization and unilateral moves that further deepen divisions,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia said in a statement.

They add that Serbia will not contribute to the spiral of escalation “and that it remains committed to peace, stability and dialogue in the interest of all citizens and the entire region”.

“At the same time, we will carefully review all legal and political aspects of the announced decisions, including the issue of jurisdiction and procedures for their adoption, as well as their possible consequences for diplomatic relations and the interests of the citizens of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Serbia will act responsibly, measuredly and in accordance with international law, not allowing the pre-election rhetoric of any individual to determine the future of relations between the two neighbors,” the Serbian ministry said.

Let us remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Elmedin Konaković earlier today issued an order to expel two diplomats from the Embassy of Serbia in Sarajevo, giving them 48 hours to leave Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Željka Cvijanović, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, spoke about this decision, stating that one of the mentioned members of the Embassy had already expired and that he had already left Bosnia and Herzegovina.
