grujicicWhat can people in Srebrenica expect in terms of employment and support in agriculture?

The foundation stone for a new kindergarten and regional road were laid. “We are working hard and we worked hard on attracting investors and establishing contacts. I walked all over the world and made hundreds of contacts with the aim to bring someone to Srebrenica. We succeeded and I think that the results will be visible soon,” said Grujicic.

He said that Camil Durakovic left him a donation from the Government of Serbia and invoices that are still coming.

“He left a budget in a good condition, but if there was not for donations of Serbia, we would be in a lot of problems because now arrived charges of companies that sued the Municipality of Srebrenica.”

Message to citizens of Srebrenica and all of those who have left it?

“We cannot live alone. The less of us is there, it is more difficult. We do not have the privilege to buy shoes or a shirt in some store that is not Azel, which is the only store where you can buy clothes. We need to keep the existing population, and then it will be easier to choose to return home,” said the Mayor of Srebrenica.

Ambitions for Srebrenica to become a European Capital of Culture? How realistic is it with regard to what Srebrenica represents in the world?

“We came up with this idea through representatives engaged in lobbying. We are aware that we do not have the capacity to easily achieve this, but we have to try in order to know where our place is and how much we can achieve. This kind of environment, with such a past, with such potential, which has the name to attract attention to the investment and put into operation of all the resources that we have. Everyone seems to recognize our potentials, except for us who live here.”

Will Bosniak land be taken away to create the National Park Drina?

“That will not happen. It was formed to protect what Srebrenica has, and there is not much of that in the world. These are special types of plants, untouched nature of the canyon Susica, and certain species of animals that are being killed every day as well as to prevent the uncontrolled cutting of trees.”
