Minister Cikotic: Money for Migrants did not go through BiH Institutions

Members of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (PABiH) visited yesterday the Ministry of Security of BiH where they were informed about security challenges and threats that BiH is facing, focusing on various aspects of the migrant crisis.

“Today, the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of the BiH Parliament received an overview of the most important activities regarding the work of this Ministry in resolving security challenges, risks and threats to BiH, and the focus of that report is on the migrant crisis,” said the Minister of Security of BiH, Selmo Cikotic, yesterday during the meeting break.

In the context of migration management, Cikotic emphasized the importance of adopting an Action Plan and establishing coordination of all state structures in this field.

Commenting on the spending of European Union funds in the segment of the migrant crisis, he reminded that it is carried out through the mechanisms of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

He assessed the mentioned exchange of information as extremely useful in order to achieve a higher level of cooperation and coordination, and a higher level of security for the state of BiH and its citizens.

When asked by journalists about the mentioned EU funds for managing the migrant crisis, Cikotic stated that about 89 million euros have been allocated for that purpose since 2018 and that none of that money has been implemented through BiH institutions.

Part of that money, as he said, is allocated to law enforcement agencies involved in migration management, and certain local communities, Radio Sarajevo writes.
