Minister Lakic: Law That Protects Jobs and Boosts Energy Security Opens Door to EU Market

This is the best proof that Bosnia and Herzegovina can function as a single system when there is political will and a focus on European obligations. This is a law that preserves jobs, strengthens energy security and opens BiH’s doors to the European market – emphasized the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić after the deputies of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH adopted in the first reading the Draft Law on the Regulator, Transmission and Market of Electricity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, proposed by the Council of Ministers of BiH.

The most important goal of the law is to create a regulated wholesale market and establish an electricity exchange in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This fulfills one of the key conditions for the exemption of BiH from the application of the CBAM – a mechanism that can significantly affect the domestic economy as early as January 1, 2026.

“The Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry thanks all deputies of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of BiH who supported this reform step forward and once again showed that by working together we can bring solutions that benefit all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We expect the delegates in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to do the same and to have the Law adopted by the end of this year,” the statement states.
