Michael Roth, the Minister for Europe in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, handed over 53 air drains to the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Canton Sarajevo (CS) for facilities affected by the recent floods in CS.
The value of the German donation is 50.000 euros, and for Minister Roth, he said, this is just a small sign of attention, because he wants to help those most affected by the floods to return to their homes as soon as possible.

”The value of Europe is in solidarity and that is of great importance for everyone. Even those who seem strong sometimes need help. Friendship is shown in crisis situations, ” said Minister Roth.
He reminded that Germany was hit by large-scale floods this year and there were many victims, but through this catastrophe,solidarity came to the fore, that is a sincere desire to help people in need.
”The first to contact Berlin, ie Germany, to help, were people from BiH, and I thank everyone for that. It just shows that in times of crisis we have to be united, whether it is floods, catastrophes, or a pandemic, ” Minister Roth pointed out.
Air drains are needed
The Director of the Cantonal Administration of the Civil Protection, Dzenan Brkanic, thanked the Government of the Republic of Germany, but also the German Embassy in BiH, for the valuable donation.
He explained that the drains would be used in the flood-affected areas, in Ilidza, where the largest number of endangered facilities are located, then in the municipalities of Novi Grad and Trnovo. Air drains are very much needed to get buildings back to their original state, to get them dry and people back to their homes.
Yesterday’s handover of the drains was also attended by Roth associates, Bundestag member Adis Ahmetovic, Western Balkans Officer Christian Hattendorff, and German Ambassador to BiH Margaret Uebber).
The German delegation led by Minister Roth was welcomed by firefighters, line ministers of the CS Government, Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karic, who thanked for the donation of valuable machines and expressed hope that they would be more prepared to welcome floods if they occur.
