The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton will focus on strengthening the human and technical capacities of the police in 2026, as well as on establishing a helicopter unit, Minister Admir Katica said.

As he stated, from 2023 to the end of 2026, a total of 839 new police officers are planned to be hired through transparent public procedures. In parallel, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo continues to invest in modern police equipment, including special and protective equipment, armored and official vehicles, radar systems and other technical equipment necessary for safe and efficient police operations.

Key projects for the coming period include the delivery of helicopters and the establishment of a helicopter unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo, as well as the construction of new infrastructure. The construction of a facility for forensic examination of vehicles originating from criminal offenses, as well as a hangar for housing helicopters, is planned.

Minister Katica also announced the adoption of new legal solutions, including the Law on Police Officers of the Canton of Sarajevo and the Law on Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo. As the first law that will be submitted for procedure immediately after the New Year, he announced the Law on the Acquisition, Possession and Carrying of Weapons and Ammunition in the Sarajevo Canton, which will be harmonized with international standards and European Union regulations.
