Mehmed Pasha Sokolovic - VisegradMayor of the Municipality of Visegrad Mladen Djurevic and businessman Slobodan Pavlovic yesterday revealed the monument to Mehmed-pasha Sokolovic in Visegrad.

The official reveal of this monument was attended by the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the creator of Andricgrad, director Emir Kusturica.

Pavlovic noted that it is “a great honor and pleasure to be able to give a monument to Mehmed-pasha Sokolovic to Visegrad”, both to him and his wife Mira.

Mehmed-pasha was one of many who managed to achieve a great career and the position of the Great Vizier in the Ottoman Empire. After his order was built the bridge over Drina River in Visegrad, which Ivo Andric described in his famous novel ” the Bridge on the Drina”, for which he received the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Mehmed-pasha also built three bridges in BiH and one in Montenegro – Arslanagica Bridge in Trebinje, a bridge at the mouth of Zepa River, and Goat’s Bridge in Sarajevo as well as Vezirov Bridge in Podgorica. It is believed that Mehmed-pasha Sokolovic built many drinking fountains as well, including the most famous one on Kalemegdan in Belgrade.
