More Strict and Regular Controls of Food

The Director of the Agency for Food Safety of BiH Sejad Mačkić announced in Mostar that there is no reason to panic in response to the findings of an increased concentrate of Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1), which was found in certain packages of “Dukat” and “Vindija” milk.

Regardless, he called on all citizens to exercise caution before buying and said that the contaminated packages were not permitted to cross the border into BiH without proper laboratory testing and certificates.

“It is very important that citizens, if they recognize the selected packages in stores to immediately notify inspection authorities, who are already on the field and are conducting controls in warehouses and dairy farms”, said Mačkić. He added that control of food has to be tightened and regular, because at any moment something can become contaminated.

Ljubomir Kalaba, the Director for the BiH Veterinary Office, said that milk and dairy products from Croatia would not be exported to BiH until the laboratories and institutions in BiH do not conduct a thorough analysis of the contaminated products in which this substance was found.
