[wzslider]The monument complex ‘War Tunnel D-B’, known in the public as the Tunnel of Hope, is becoming a more attractive destination for tourists, and last year more than 82.000 passed through this tunnel last year.
This was confirmed to Fena by the Spokesperson of the Memorial Fund, under whose auspices the complex operates, Irfan Gazdić, stressing that there is an increase in the number of tourists when compared with the previous year, and more tourists are expected this year.
‘’Tourists come from all over the world-from countries in the Middle and Far East, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and Latin America. Perhaps the most number of tourists come from the region, from Croatia and Slovenia, but not in much higher number than tourists from other countries. Diplomatic staff also have their role in promoting the tunnel complex, and we are always communicating with embassies to bring guests here’’, he said.
Gazdić underlined that last year was dedicated to the marking of the 20-year anniversary when the tunnel was put into operation through a series of activities and projects.
Gazdić announced that this year they will begin to implement planned projects. This is primarily related to capacity expansion for guests. The plan is to make four new video rooms with much greater capacity compared to the existing facilities, which can now accommodate 60-80 people. This would create the possibility to receive about 300 people at one time. Also, in accordance with financial capacities, it is planned to acquire additional land to expand the complex, with the construction of a polygon with a makeshift minefield.
