More than a million passengers were transported from four airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina during 2015. The most frequent airport is the Sarajevo International Airport, while the Banja Luka airport records the least traffic. By bringing the company Wizz Air, Tuzla improved the air traffic, while the Mostar Airport operates in accordance with its capacities, but at a satisfying level.
Administrations of the airports in BiH are satisfied with the traffic, although every airport needs better infrastructure and additional investments. During last year, new airlines have entered BiH, thus the Sarajevo Airport got connected to the far Dubai with the company Fly Dubai and as of this year the BiH citizens will be able to travel with the companies Qatar Airways and Air Arabia.
During 2015, 772.851 passengers passed through the Sarajevo International Airport, which is by nine percent more compared to the previous year. In the first two months of 2016, 83.775 passengers have been transported. The Sarajevo Airport highlights that the number of airlines who decide to establish flights from Sarajevo is increasing, which is very important for the tourism in BiH.
The Mostar Airport recorded 75.000 passengers in 2015 and according to the announcements they expect a similar season.
“We can say that is our maximum. In order to expand capacities, we need investments that we are currently preparing for,” said the manager for operations and security of the Mostar Airport, Marko Đuzel.
Companies flying from Mostar are Mistral Air, the Italian airline owned by the Italian Post, the airline Alba Star, which is a company registered in Spain, and they both fly for Italy. Of other airlines, there is Croatia Airlines which connects Mostar with Lebanon.
In 2015, 252.029 passengers passed through the Tuzla International Airport. In the first two months of this year, 39.174 passengers have been registered. When it comes to the number of arrivals, it amounts to 18.310, and the number of departing passengers amounts to 20.864, stated the Head of Traffic Service of the Tuzla International Airport, Edina Šišić.
Šišić added that Wizz Air is currently the only airline operating on this airport.
