Within the climate action platform “TvojCO2.ba”, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina invites all nature lovers to nominate trees of special value in order to draw attention to the unique richness of nature in BiH and pointed out the value of forest conservation in the fight against climate change.

According to the UNDP, more than half of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is covered with rich forests of exceptional diversity. Numerous towns and villages are also decorated with valuable specimens of trees.

Forests and individual trees play a key role in water purification, landslide prevention, and temperature regulation, but they are also related to the spiritual and traditional values of our regions.

– Each tree is a world unto itself. Throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are valuable and old trees, some of which are not protected, and their importance is not recognized – it is emphasized in the press release of UNDP.

Through the digital platform for climate action TvojCO2.ba, from September 23 to October 21, 2022, anyone can propose one or more trees that they think should carry the title “Tree of the Year in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The winners will be announced after the public voting period at http://www.TvojCO2.ba, which will last from November 1 to December 11 this year. People who nominate the first twenty trees by public vote will be awarded solar chargers.

UNDP in BiH continues to focus its efforts on promoting nature protection and solutions to the problem of climate change based on nature, good examples from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s communities, and the ways in which each person, as well as the private and public sectors, can influence the mitigation of climate change.
