The Sava River Basin Agency said most hydrological stations forecast rising water levels in the entire Sava River Basin in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the upper Una, Bosnia, Usora and Drina basins. As they state, in the notification on the forecast of the emergency hydrological condition for the period 30.03. to 02.04.
In 2022, torrent watercourses on which the water level may increase in that period are in the area of the upper course of the Bosnia basin, ie. in the basin of the rivers Fojnica, Zeljeznica and Stavnja.
”In the next three to five days, it is forecast to reach the water level at which it is possible to overflow from the riverbed and flood the surrounding terrain along the watercourse, especially in the upper Una, upper Bosnia and upper Vrbas. The notification on the forecast of possible floods of smaller coverage refers to the area of the municipalities of Drvar, Gornji Vakuf, Fojnica, Kiseljak, Trnovo, Ilidza and Novi Grad Sarajevo,” t is stated.
AVP Sava advises the competent institutions to monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with the authorities, and recommends increased caution to the services that implement measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material goods.
”Competent civil protection services should warn the population, areas along rivers that do not have built protective water facilities, that it is dangerous to approach the shores due to possible increase in depths and flow velocities, and give them timely information with instructions and guidelines. Based on that, the population would be able (before the eventual flood) to implement self-protection measures, in order to reduce and prevent possible damage to them and their material goods,” according to AVP Sava, Water Management Sector.
