The European Movement in BiH will organize for the ninth time in 2013 the “Day of Europe” in May. This year Prnjavor, as a local community, was proposed as a partner candidate for this event.
At a session of the Municipal Assembly of Prnjavor, the proposal of the Mayor Siniša Gatarića was accepted for this municipality to host the ‘’Day of Europe’’ in BiH.
‘’Day of Europe” in BiH will be celebrated under the auspices of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency Nebojša Radmanović, and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers Vjekoslav Bevanda is expected to attend, according to a statement given to FENA by the President of the European Movement in BiH Predrag Praštalo.
The celebration is scheduled not only for 9 May as “Day of Europe’’, but also from 4-11 May cultural, sport and entertainment events will also take place to mark the day.
The central manifestation will be organized on 8 May, because 9 May is reserved for the manifestation of the EU Delgation in Sarajevo, and it was decided that the European Movement would move the event one day before the office date that is marked as the “Day of Europe”.
Among the many events that will take place, there will be a sitting volleyball tournament with participants from BiH, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. With this, Praštalo says that Prnjavor will be presented as a town in which more than 17 national minorities live, making it the best place for the development of tolerance and reconciliation in the region.
Also, an open karate tournament, race for Europe, concerts, discussions on European integration and visits of representatives of the diplomatic corps and international communities will take place in Prnjavor.
Praštalo said that the European Movement will altnernate the celebration of this day in May, one year in the RS and the subsequent year in the FBiH, and added that there is already a plan the “Day of Europe’’ will be celebrated in Sarajevo to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I in 2014. This time, a message of peace and tolerance between people and their differences will be sent.
