[wzslider autoplay=”true”] A large number of believers gathered this morning in Sarajevo in front of Gazi Husrev-Bey’s Mosque to worship the Eid prayer.

Eid, the biggest feast for Muslims, started this morning with the Eid prayer. Central Eid ceremony was held in Sarajevo at the Gazi Husrev-Bey’s mosque. Eid prayer was lead by Reis-ul-ulema Husein ef. Kavazovic.

Muslims in BiH and all around the world are marking the Eid al-Adha, “the Sacrifice Feast” or “Bakr Eid”, when people go on the Hajj (visit Mecca).

This is the most important Islamic holiday that comes in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, two months and ten days after Eid al-Fitr.

Eid is a sacrifice that is offered in memory of Abraham’s devotion to God. People most often sacrifice a sheep, and Eid meat is divided to family, the poor, friends, and those that need it the most.

Eid al-Adha is also called Hajji Eid because Muslims go on the Hajj. According to Sharia law, the Hajj is one of the five Islamic foundation, and it means a pilgrimage to Mecca and performing a tour around the Ka’bah, fast walk and run between Safa and Marwa hills, staying at Mount Arafat, and performing other Hajj ceremonies.

Today the pilgrims gathered on Mount Arafat, near Mecca. Prophet Muhammed p.b.u.h. held a farewell speech at Arafat 14 centuries ago.

Therefore, there are two joys of this holiday. The first joy is sacrifice, and with this Muslims practically show the concern for other people and their needs, and emphasize the equality and unity among all peoples and nations. Another joy is the Hajj, which brings pilgrims closer to Allah Almighty, with which they express their obedience and gratitude, hoping for His reward and forgiveness.

Eid holidays are an opportunity to explain the message of Islam, to show openness and tolerance of Islam, call the need for coexistence, respect and appreciation of the other and different.
