Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) skier Elvedina Muzaferia achieved the first victory of her career in the downhill race at the European Cup in Crans Montana. She dedicated the victory to women and girls who are victims of domestic violence.
“Even though today I won the European Cup race, which is also the best result for BiH ever, i.e. the first victory in an international competition, I cannot be so happy considering that today is the Day of Mourning and I really want to dedicate this victory to all the girls and women who are victims of violence, domestic violence. Know that I am with you and that it is never too late to act. Today was a very long day. There were two races. There was the first race, I ended up in seventh place with a lot of mistakes. However, I knew that I had another chance and I really took it, I did my best, even though the feeling while I was skiing wasn’t the best. I just knew that I had to ‘attack‘ the track and in the end, it paid off. I’m really happy that, in a week when it is the 40th anniversary of the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, I achieved a historic result for BiH. I am glad that next week we will have the opportunity to drive the World Cup race on the same track,” said Elvedina Muzaferija yesterday.
She believes that this is an excellent preparation for the World Cup and that she can achieve a good result next weekend.
Elvedina won the seventh position in the first downhill race yesterday morning.
Our skier is currently seventh in the downhill standings in the European Cup with 138 points.
To recall, on January 28th, Elvedina achieved the best result in the history of BiH skiing.
Muzaferija took 14th place in the World Cup Super G Slalom race in Italy’s Karina Dampeco.
